Marc Malandro, PhD, CLP, RTTP

Marc Malandro serves as the Founding Director of the Innovation Institute and the Vice Chancellor for Technology Management and Commercialization at the University of Pittsburgh. In the Innovation Institute, the University of Pittsburgh has created a central hub of innovation and entrepreneurial resources for academic innovators, students, and the region’s entrepreneurial community to support entrepreneurship and to transform world-changing research into innovations that have an impact on society.  Under Dr. Malandro’s leadership, the University of Pittsburgh has been granted over 550 issued US patents, entered into over 1,124 license agreements and formed 77 new startup companies based on University technologies.

Dr. Malandro is an Adjunct Professor with appointments in the Schools of the Health Sciences, Swanson School of Engineering, and Katz Graduate School of Business. He is Chairman of the Life Sciences PA (formerly Pennsylvania Bio) Board of Directors and serves on the Board of Directors of the Pittsburgh Technology Council. He is a Certified Licensing Professional and Registered Technology Transfer Professional. Prior to joining the University, Dr. Malandro co-founded Sagres Discovery, a systems biology company focused on the understanding of the molecular basis of cancer, where he served as Vice President of Technology and Strategic Alliances and was involved in all aspects of intellectual property, licensing and alliance management. Dr. Malandro has a B.S. and M.S. in Biological Sciences from Youngstown State University and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Florida.
